The Fears are Paper Tigers
I’ve been scared for 10 years…
Truth be known, it’s probably longer.
As my job slowly took its toll on my physical and mental health, I was in fear of the future.
What could I do? Where could I go? How could I get out of this space that I really didn’t want to be in?
And then Andy said one of the most powerful things someone had ever spoken to me; “It’s taken all of my life to find you, but if you go on like this I’m going to lose you”
Wake up call. But I was still scared.
At my age I couldn’t see me getting another job, so the only option was to start my own business, and that was a terrifying prospect.
What could I do? What if it all went wrong? How would we survive?
Our dream had always been to build up the businesses, move to Spain and live a mobile lifestyle.
But with Covid, Brexit and my job about to kill me, that project suddenly became very real when we decided to up sticks and make the move before the end of the year.
Were we ready? No. But then again, would we ever be ready? No, because more often than not we let the fear talk us out of it.
But the decision was made. Our lease was up and we had to move anyway and I was increasingly becoming more crushed by my job.
So I did it…
Through the fear and uncertainty I typed up my resignation and booked a ferry to France for us.
And now we’re here, living in Spain where we always wanted to be, only a bit sooner than I thought!
The challenges to get here are another story, as is the navigation of Spanish bureaucracy to apply for our Residencia, but we’re here.
And you know what, we’re still alive, we’re okay. In fact we’re better than that, we’re loving every second.
Don’t get me wrong, there will always be challenges, but nothing like the ones I had in my head.
Which brings me back to a quote by Emilia Earhart:
“The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward.”
And that’s what we’ve done…
My mission now is to work with Andy to inspire, motivate and help others to do the same. And if I can help just one person do that, then I’ll be a very happy bunny.
Level Up Coaches Club is all about disrupting the things that hold us back; those little voices in our head that tell us to stay put, to keep doing the ‘normal’. Those are the same voices that when it’s all too late will say to us “You should have done it you fool”.
How about you? Does this resonate? I’d love to know what you think.
